The Club was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing away of Julian Kenny, husband of our member Joan, on 10th August.

We send Joan our love and deepest sympathy at this sad time.

There will a Celebration of the life of Professor Kenny on 15th August at the Country Club at 5pm.

I know I speak for all members who would have wished to be there on Monday, but are currently out of the country - we much regret that we cannot attend the Celebration, but our thoughts are with you Joan.

'Professor Julian Kenny was a zoologist who made his mark documenting the natural history of the Caribbean. His research uncovered details on the distribution of freshwater fish species in Trinidad and Tobago and provided information on the species of anurans to be found in these islands. He also spearheaded research at the University of the West Indies (UWI), which highlighted information on the ecological dynamics of some of the country’s natural areas, including its savannas, wetlands, cave systems, marine systems and coral reefs. His work has contributed to the protection of sensitive ecosystems, the management of fisheries and the development of a National Trust.' From www.caribbean-icons.org

Paulo Kernahan wrote a very fitting piece in the Trinidad Guardian on Saturday, 13th August which you may like to read. http://www.guardian.co.tt/category/byline-authors/paolo-kernahan

Thank you Rachel. You have spoken well for those of us who are not in Trinidad at the moment. I would also like to thank Lorenza and Erica who are in Trinidad and have been in touch with Joan on behalf of the UKWC and the Mannagement Committee.

I was quire saddened to learn of Prof. Kenny's passing. He was a great advocate for the environment. I am aware he was in in contact with other Environmentalists and Architects producing a paper to present to the Government and that they all met just three weeks prior to his death. My only hope is that they will continue the good work in his honor. I am still in London but on my return, I shall contact Joan and offer what ever assistance she may need.
